What is this good for?

I was hoping for sources to display as a color temperature reading somewhere in the actual range. Grey cards, bulbs, paper, under daylight shade, or incandescents, or 4100k fluorescents, all show figures I know to be hundreds or thousands of degrees off. It may be that you can set a range to read within, but how useful is it to point at a 6500k source and be shown a 2681k reading?
